Sailing Adventures

This page is just a placeholder at this point. No significant sailing has been done so far. The page title at this point is entirely a matter of wishful thinking.

The prior owner, Joel, the surveyor, Bernie, and I took a sea trial prior to purchase. This was in 32 knots with large, steep waves. We put up full sails and sailed to windward and tacked a few times, then shortenned sail, then took down sails and checked operation under power. All went well enough but it was a brief sail. Also see Marine Survey Findings web page.

Joel took Tara (my now ex-wife) and I out for another brief sail in lighter conditions and we sailed a bit longer but still only a bit over an hour but this was entirely under sail except exiting and entering the harbor and slip.

After purchase, Wayne, Chris, Lydia, and I did a morning sail to move the boat from Falmouth to Sesuit Harbor where she was to be stored for the winter. We arrived just before sunrise and was out a bit after 7AM. We motored through the Cape Cod Canal since they do not allow boats under sail in the canal. Once in Cape Cod Bay we sailed a broad reach to just outside Sesuit Harbor, then jybed toward the harbor entrance. We took sails down just outside the entrance and motored in on a spring hide tide (a higher than normal high tide). Wind was SSW and over 25 knots the whole way.

After that the boat has been undergoing a rennovation and so has not been sailed since. Covid-19 impeded progress though in retrospect completion by summer 2020 was not at all likely even without the delays. Very little progress was made in 2021 and 2022 due to getting divorced and moving to Maine. Hopefully the post-refit shakedown sail will happen by spring or summer 2024 though each year the target date has been slipping.
