Status Summary
Full Charged has been renamed in USCG records but is awaiting launch for a traditional renaming. For two years she resided on blocks and stands in my side yard on Cape Cod. I have since moved to Maine where she was stored at Belmont Boatworks for two years awaiting some work there. The work never got started so she is now in my carport/boatport at my new home.
The diesel was removed in 2020. The new prop shaft was put in place in 2020 but prop was not put on until 2022. The motor has yet to be installed. The motor is in my garage. The batteries have been purchased and are in my basement (too cold in the garage). Other stuff is in the garage such as charge controllers, solar panels, some of the bus bars and large breakers. Battery boxes are nearly completed needing only the power posts. Some work in the aft bilge area will be needed to improve drainage and to support the battery boxes. The electrical bus wiring and high amperage wiring will be added after the battery boxes are in place.
The exterior was looking good having spent time at Richardsons Marine in 2020. While at Richardsons Marine quite a bit of fiberglass work was completed. The Completed Work web page describes this work. Kenrick Arnold sanded the exterior teak in 2020. This work, though not quite complete, is also described on the Completed Work web page.
In 2020 I tore the electrical and plumbing systems out and got rid of all of the old electronics except the VHF which was relatively new. Since then I've replaced some of the plumbing but I need to do some fiberglass work for supports for the two electric-only water heaters and the two expansion tanks. The electrical is also awaiting fiberglass work for battery box supports and mountings for bus bars main battery switches and breakers and a new mount for the circuit breaker panels. A lot of this was done in 2020 but some progress was made in 2021 and 2022. Other small things like replacing the steering pedestal bars and mizzen mast step were done.
Work was progressing steadily, though slower than planned in 2020. Very little progress was made in 2021 and 2022. During that time I moved to Maine and in February 2023 I bought the house I am now in. Full Charged was freshly cleaned when moved to Belmont but despite being designated as indoor storage she was outside near pine trees for three weeks and was filthy once moved inside. Rain water in the cabin may have damaged the aft cockpit sole. The roof of the indoor storage leaked onto my boat and froze in her first winter at Belmont. I used antifreeze and a heater to slush it up and get rid of it. No damage occurred due to the bilge area partial freeze incident.
Belmont Boatworks estimated that they would complete work on my CP23 definitely by spring of 2024 but maybe not the work on Full Charged. They did some work over the winter on the CP23 but didn't get all of the work done and some of the gelcoat work was terrible. They didn't get me the boat until mid September. Since one of the things they didn't do was put the new Maine registration numbers on I didn't launch. They agreed the gelcoat work was badly done and fixed up most of it over the next winter (two people and two days of comp work). I had to finish some of the work that Belmont didn't do in spring and summer of 2024. I did finally launch. On the second time unfurling the headsail the newly installed forestay broke. They blamed it on halyard wrap (second time unfurling?) but I think they badly pinched the headstay when swaging. I decided to change furlers so that set me back another few weeks. After a very short season where I never really got the rig right it was time to haul out.
From when Belmont Boatworks took Full Charged into storage in November 2022 to June 2024 none of the planned work was completed except removing the diesel tank. They also managed to put a large gouge in the rub rail when moving the boat inside their storage area. They hit a steel beam that was part of the storage area structure. The boat was moved to my house. They still have my masts, radar, and wind generator which hopefully they haven't lost.
Full Charged has now spent the 2024 summer at my house while I worked on my CP23 and has spent the winter there. It is now fall 2025 and due to an aggresive landscape construction project and an injury no boat work got done over the summer. Hopefully some work (by me since Belmont Boatworks seems incapable) will start progressing this winter and next spring and summer. I bought an inflatable dinghy. Much needed work on my hard dinghy is no longer a priority. Although I still have some work to do on my CP23 so far this fall I'm prioritized long ignored Full Charged.
The Planned Upgrades web page summarizes the very substantial amount of work that remains to be done.
